  • Step 1
    Add corn flour to a large bowl.
  • Step 2
    Add either the water OR stock to the bowl and mix throughly.
  • Step 3
    Roll up a ball about the size of a fist and then use your palms in a gentle clapping motion to flatten it.
  • Step 4
    Use the sides of your hands to smooth out the edges and keep the arepa nice and round.
  • Step 5
    Place the arepa on a lightly oiled pan over high heat for 5-8 minutes per side.
Chef's notes
  • You may need to adjust the quantity of liquid. Add enough so the dough is moderately sticky, but can form a smooth ball when rolled with your hands.
  • After the arepa is cooked, slice halfway through the middle and add a few small knobs of butter to make it moist and flavorful.
